Honoring 25 Years of the Iu Mien Student Conference

Our Mission
Founded in 1999 by Dr. Chiem-Seng Yaangh, the Iu Mien Student Conference (IMSC) was created to empower Iu Mien youth through higher education, leadership, and cultural preservation. Through speakers, workshops, and community collaboration, students were inspired to embrace their identity and pursue success in college and beyond.

Collaboration & Leadership
IMSC thrived through strong community partnerships, including school districts, colleges, businesses, and dedicated volunteers—many of whom were former participants. The conference was primarily hosted at California State University, Sacramento, with additional years at UC Davis and the Sam Pannell Community Center. Volunteers led all efforts, from planning and fundraising to student outreach and program development.

25 Years of Impact
22 conferences hosted
8,000 students empowered
700 parents reached
1,000 volunteers engaged
$50,000 in scholarships awarded

Mission Complete

After 25 years, IMSC celebrated its final chapter on October 9, 2025, at the Iu Mien Community Services “Honoring Our Journey” Banquet. This milestone honors the leaders, volunteers, and supporters who made it all possible. While the conference has concluded, its legacy lives on through continued cultural advocacy and scholarship opportunities for future generations.
