IU-MIEN STUDENT CONFERENCE 15
What will your LegaSAE be?

Iu-Mien Community Services is proud to announce the 15th Annual Iu-Mien Student Conference (IMSC 15).

MISSION
To address the many needs of Iu-Mien youth the IMSC committee has worked in partnership with Iu-Mien Community Services (also known as United Iu-Mien Community, Inc.) and the Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) to host an annual educational conference with a three-fold mission:
(1) To empower youth to pursue higher education and/or explore career opportunities
(2) To educate youth on the importance of preserving ethnic culture, and
(3) To inspire youth to become community leaders.

IMPACT
IMSC has positively impacted the lives of over 10,000 youth. The IMSC committee has also awarded scholarships to high school seniors to assist in the costs of higher education. With the success of this annual conference, many former Iu-Mien student participants have gone on to public and private universities, such as UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, and many more. Now many IMSC “alumni” are young professions working in various careers such as: medical residency, nursing, student advising, social work, accounting, management, law, etc.

GOAL OF IMSC 15
This year’s conference will focus on motivating students to contribute to their community and reflect upon the type of legaSAE they hope to leave behind. Students will have an opportunity to explore various issues in their communities and think about the types of improvements they would like to make. Through interactive workshops with topics ranging from health, wellness, culture, academics and history, students will learn how their ethnic culture and personal identity can be incorporated into the idea of “leaving a legaSAE”. We intend to further equip students with the leadership and analytical skills that will help them realize their potential and start considering what their legaSAE will be.
